Batman on a Budget

July 24th, 2007 by admin0

Excellent illustration by artist Mike Mitchell (site, blog).

As Mike tells it: “I wanted to do a Batman limited by a middle class income. He still manages to fight crime though..”
Love it:

he could afford more crime-fighting equipment if he quit smoking! nice picture!

Hey douche, you added nothing to the story, and your page is drenched in ads. Explain again why you didn’t link the Digg directly to the ACTUAL story, and bypass your two-sentence comment? Oh, wait, you’d miss out on ad revenue.

    Batman’s on drugs?!

    @Chaos Motor

Are you a communist? Do you have a problem with people attempting to make a few dollars?

#3 Jeez, Chaos. This is a photoblog, not a link list. We post a lot of stuff from all over the web here. All of it’s done in contact with the artists and photographers. If this is your first time here, welcome. But please, tone down the language. This is a friendly place.

Just make the text on the link bigger. It is kinda small compared to everything else on the page.

  8. Matt

Remove the bat ears and the club and it would look like Snake at the beginning of MGS.

    Chaos Motor,

Do you run a website? Do you know how much traffic a front-page dig can generate? When hosting images that are of decent size, it can suck all your bandwidth. Bandwidth costs money. Stop blabbering, it’s annoying.

    Nice

Looks like Midnighter from The Authority.

  12. Talmer

You are talented! I would love to see that as a comic! The work on your other site is great as well.

That’s not Batman! That’s Solid Snake badly disguised as Batman. =P

  14. shodan

well… I don’t see any ads, what’s all the commotion about

This just shows how George Bush has screwed up this country. If he actually cared about this country, shouldn’t Batman be receiving a check each month for being less-fortunate?

I don’t think batman could live in that kind of strife. All of DC’s heroes have a lofty sense of being, with either god-like powers, or billions of dollars. I think he might lose his perspective if he had to worry about money, but that’s just the Marvel fan in me. I like this drawing. It is very modern/cyber-punk with a great feel of the macabre understand of Gotham. Very Cool. 9 out of 10.

Some thing is not right here.

Where the hell is his gun? I mean, come on. Batman on a budget means he’s had a much worse life after his parents died. He has no Alfred to take care of him. Thus he grew up at an orphanage or on the streets or got adopted until his teens. So he’s much more willing to kill due to a lack of discipline and gaurdianship.

He then most likely joined the army or some police/SWAT like organization to kill criminals for revenge. Then he got frustrated by the limitations of the law, and took things into his own hands.

Obviously the type of gun he would have is a sniper or possibly a shotgun or magnum. Although, I think a sniper (or modified dart) rifle would suite this Batman better, since he can’t really disappear that quickly with his bulky suit and utility gadgets pocketed across his entire body. He needs all the stealth he can get. (Perhaps the majority of those pockets contain magazines)

Not to mention, he would require a radio to be in touch with all police activity. But his vehicle is a normal car. Thus he must be driving around town (or at least the downtown area) all night.
But then how can he be doing things at night and the day without suspicion?

My guess is a government veteran pension for participating in a war (Most likely the Korean war, as an excuse for him to learn some oriental martial art). But such a pension wouldn’t be enough, maybe for the weapons and gadgets, but what about every day living?

I guess that would be where the welfare kicks in. But even that wouldn’t be enough for normal living AND a car (think insurance and money for gas). Clearly, this Batman, with his charms and steals money from women while engaged in relations with them to fuel his own enterprise. Then, when they start asking too many questions, he drops his facade and moves on to the next woman.
But, that still shouldn’t be enough. I mean, he does have to build trust before getting at their ‘cheese’.

I guess the only other explanation is that Batman also deals drugs or participates as a ‘righteous’ mercenary for ‘righteous’ gangs. (The type that he most likely grew up around)
The drugs part isn’t that far fetched. Health insurance costs a lot in america. So this Batman needs to get his pain killers from some where else. But at the same time, he’s smart enough not get addicted. So why not make an Automated cycle where he takes what he needs, sells the rest at a high price only to buy the same amount with the profits.

Oh yeah, his bat ears is where the police radio is hidden.

… I think I’ve put too much thought into this.

This would definitely make a good long term comic series. maybe not great, but definately good

So… yeah. The gun is missing.

    Nice artistic expression

It makes me wonder in batman on a budget would have been chased by the police for doing good stuff.

Mike! This is Jane and I had to comment on this because I was just stumbling and it came to this link! haha!
