There’s a young paratrooper in Samarra, Iraq (visit his photostream here), who is busy taking some of the most profound and artistically beautiful photographs of the conflict in that troubled country. Favoring close-in candids of the people he knows and meets, shadowy minimalist moments and high contrast images of the ruined landscape, they’re quite unlike anything I’ve ordinarily seen in soldier’s photos. Here is a gallery of some of the images that I thought particularly striking.
